Syntaxial Calcite Vein

Thin section (crossed nicols, quartz plate) of a syntaxial calcite vein in a matrix of limestone, Vanoise, western Alps. The vein fibers are in crystallographic continuity with wall rock crystals. Note the two groups of crystals meeting along a surface at the vein center (medial line). Photo credit: John Ramsay.
