Susan E. Jackson is Professor or Human Resource Management in the School of Management and Labor Relations at Rutgers University. She also holds appointments as Research Fellow at the Graduate School of Business Administration (GSBA)—Zürich, Switzerland, and Fellow at The Sunningdale Institute, National School of Government, United Kingdom. Prior to joining Rutgers in 1998, she served on the faculties of New York University, the University of Michigan, and the University of Maryland, where she has taught courses on a wide range of topics related to the challenge of effectively managing people at work. She received her B.A. in psychology and sociology from the University of Minnesota and her Master's and Ph.D. degrees in organizational psychology from the University of California at Berkeley. Her primary areas of expertise include managing team effectiveness, workforce diversity, and the design of human resource management systems to support learning and innovation. She has published more than 100 scholarly articles on these and related topics. She also is the author or editor of several books, including, Managing Human Resources (with R. Schuler and S. Werner), Managing Knowledge for Sustainable Competitive Advantage (with M. Hitt and A. DeNisi), Managing Human Resources in Cross-Border Alliances (with R. Schuler and Y. Luo), and Diversity in Work Teams. In addition to her university activities, Professor Jackson has held numerous positions in professional societies. In the Academy of Management, she is a fellow and currently serves as Program Chair and Vice President, having served previously as a member of the Human Resources Division's Executive Committee; Editor of the Academy of Management Review, a journal devoted to the publication of scholarly reviews and theory development; President of the Academy of Management's Division of Organizational Behavior; and a member of the Academy of Management's Board of Governors. She also is a Fellow of the American Psychological Association, the British Academy of Management, and the Society for Industrial and Organizational Psychology, where she served as a member of the Executive Committee for several years. Professor Jackson's consulting activities have included organizations such as General Electric, American Express, Merrill Lynch, the University of California and the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business.
