Exit Interview Gets A New Name
Carl A. Lahetta

After talking with dozens of students I began to realize that the phrase "Exit Interview" confused many students. It seems that many students thought that if they were only leaving for a semester that they did not have to attend an Exit Interview because they were not "really" leaving, they were going to come back. They also thought that some how it also meant that they could not receive any more financial aid. They were wrong!

An Exit Interview is a session where a student is educated about his loan before he leaves school for any reason. It really amounts to a "heads up' session so the student knows who to call if he has a question, or needs information. The student also learns how to inform his borrowers that he is back in school.

Since this message was not getting through to students, I decided to change the name to Loan Counseling Session. As the other departments change to the new term, I hope that a new perception is created. Ideally, if a student knows she is going to withdraw and has student loans, she should think of going to a Loan Counseling Session. Especially since the new term captures what the process is all about - educating students to manage their loans.

Reserve Your Seat Early

Besides worrying about your papers, those last tests, ordering your cap and gown, you need to make reservations at your favorite restaurant. Don't forget that there are numerous two and four year colleges in NJ who will be having graduation ceremonies in May. Who knows how many will be on the same day as yours?

Call ahead and make reservations now. Tell the receptionist it's for a special occasion. The longer you wait, the harder it will be to get a spot. The last thing you want is to be running from one restaurant to another when they are all full.

After calling a few restaurants in New Brunswick, I have the following advice. You could go to the restaurant early to try to get a table, or arrive late in the evening. Best advice - call now!
