the afro-hispanic legacy:
equatorial guinea (former spanish colony on the western coast of central africa; includes a mainland territory located between cameroon and gabon, and several islands off the coast, including bioko and annobón). equatorial guinea is the only sub-saharan african country in which spanish is the official language (though a number of other languages are also spoken there, such as bubi, fang and annobonés). the spanish colonizers also left behind a legacy of authoritarianism. while the country is rich in oil deposits and other natural resources, most equatoguineans live in extreme poverty.
