Students approved to conduct research with Dr. Tomie at the Center of Alcohol Studies must complete the following training to gain access to the lab.
Occupational Health: All students must completed an Occupational Health and Safety form for IRB Protocol #05062, Lei Yu, Principal Investigator. This is the form that asks about allergies to animals, etc. Answer the questions on the form, then return the form to Occupational Health, who will provide you with clearance to work with animals.
Laboratory Animal Services (LAS): All students must complete two training seminars offered by the University Vet.
The orientation seminar on Animal Use in Research - Regulations and Protocols must be completed first. You must pre-register for this seminar, either on-line or by calling 732-445-4168. You must indicate that you are taking this training for Dr. Yu=s IRB Protocol #05062. Training dates are posted on-line at:

The second required training seminar is on the topic of Rodent Handling. To pre-register for this seminar you must complete the Orientation Seminar on Animal Use in Research (see above) and have clearance from Occupational Health to work with animals. You can pre-register for this seminar on-line or by calling 732-445-4168. When you pre-register you must indicate

Or, you can make arrangements to be trained by Dr. Tomie at CAS.
Right-To-Know (RTK): All students must attend the training seminar on the safe handling of chemicals and hazardous materials. This training is called Right-To-Know (RTK) and is offered by Rutgers Environmental Health and Safety (REHS). There is no pre-registration for this seminar. Registration is during the training seminar, where you must indicate

University‑sponsored training is an important component of our scientific and professional
development. I include a detailed description of all of this training in all letters of recommendation.
It is the responsibility of all students to make sure that they have received all of this clearance/training that is required by the University in order to work in the laboratory.
