Program name and description: Electrical and Computer Engineering. The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering has two elective courses 332:491 Special Problems and 332:492 Special Problems offered both in the regular academic year and in the summer. Each student is allowed to take up to 6 credits of Special Problems. However, an Honors student can take up to 12 credits of Special Problems. Typically, the student who enrolls in Special Problems is associated with an ongoing research topic either in the department or in a related department. The student will work on a well defined research problem under the guidance of a faculty advisor.

Participants:
Mostly juniors and seniors, with a minimum GPA of 2.8, or the consent of the instructor.
Student products:
Student writes a technical report which (a) defines the problem being worked on; (b) discusses the methods used to solve the problem; (c) details the laboratory experiments if there are any; (d) draws the conclusions from the work performed. Also, those students following the Honors program need to present their work in an open forum in the form of a seminar.
