Program name and description:     RISE (Research in Science and Engineering at Rutgers. RISE is part of the Northeast Alliance for Graduate Education and the Professoriate, which has base funding from the National Science Foundation with matching funds from Rutgers University.

RISE supports summer research for undergraduates in science, mathematics, and engineering. The program runs from June 4 to July 27, 2001, and pays a stipend of $3,000 in addition to providing free housing and travel. Students are matched with faculty mentors and reside on the Busch Campus in student apartments. The program includes academic enrichment -- seminars, skills workshops, and GRE preparation.

Participants:   

Intended for minority students (African-American, Hispanic, or Native American) who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents.

Student products:    

Students make an oral and a written presentation at a final Symposium to be held July 27, 2001.
