Programs
Program name and description: The Graduate Science Careers Program (GSCP). Co-sponsored by Rutgers University and Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. It offers summer and academic-year research opportunities for students interested in pursuing the Ph.D. degree. Participants work with faculty mentors and participate in research seminars.

Participants: Approximately 15 students
The GSCP serves African-American and Latino students from the post-sophomore summer through graduation. There are no rigid selection criteria, but good performance in math/science courses and an interest in a research career are required.
Student products:
GSCP participants make oral presentations of their work at a formal Symposium at the end of the summer program (and will do so at end-of-academic-year programs as it expands next year). They may also be included on abstracts and manuscripts from their sponsoring laboratories and invited to attend professional meetings.
