Program name and description:     Urban forestry/aboriculture independent study. Several discrete research projects and portions of larger research programs are available to expost students to research methods in urban tree establishment, tree production issues, and other topics related to urban trees. Examples include tree growth potentials in parking lots, media temperature in containerized/field grown trees, soil moisture tracking in difficult landscapes, weight distributions in tree limbs, specification development.

Participants:   

Students must have a background in plant sciences, landscape architecture, natural resources. Limited projects could be accomodated by human ecology urban planning students with some plant science background

Student products:    

A scientific research paper, or concept synthesis paper will represent a minimum of 60 percent of the grade for the term, dpeendent on the project scope and study timeline.
