Prior to joining Rutgers University, I was a member of the research faculty at the University of Maryland Institute for Advanced Computer Studies (UMIACS).  I completed my Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park, MD, in 2010.  I received the B.S. degrees in Electrical Engineering and Applied Mathematics (with honors) and the M.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from North Carolina State University, Raleigh, NC, in 2004 and 2005, respectively.  I was a recipient of the ORAU postdoctoral fellowship in 2010.

Security and privacy: Active authentication, biometrics template protection, biometrics recognition
Computer vision: Deep learning, domain adaptation, dictionary learning, object recognition, activity recognition, shape representation
Machine learning: Dimensionality reduction, clustering, kernel methods, weakly-supervised learning
Signal/Image processing: Sparse representation, compressive sampling, image restoration, synthetic aperture radar imaging, millimeter wave imaging

09/2017: Gave a keynote speech on Active Authentication at the 2017 European Intelligence and Security Informatics Conference (EISIC), Hellenic Air Force Academy, Greece.

09/2017: Our paper "CNN-based cascaded multi-task learning of high-level prior and density estimation for crowd counting" received the Best Paper Award at AVSS 2017. Congratulations Vishwanath!
