Post-Doctoral/Visiting Scientist in Microbial Chemistry

A two-year post-doctoral or visiting scientist position is available to study comparative secondary metabolite chemistry of the graminicolous Clavicipitaceae (Claviceps and relatives).  Primary goals will be to develop culturing systems to optimize in-vitro secondary metabolite production, examine the link between morphological and chemical differentiation, apply chemometric techniques for evaluation secondary metabolite profiles, and explore the utility of secondary metabolite profiles for chemotaxonomic classification of graminicolous clavicipitaceae.  The project will complement the laboratory's ongoing evolutionary studies of the Clavicipitaceae.  Candidates should have a Ph.D. with a strong background in natural product chemistry and microbial physiology.  Experience in chemometrics, chemosystematics, chromatography, bioassay guided fractionation, structure elucidation, as well as an interest in the chemistry of fungi or grasses is desirable.
