Charles Portis wrote "True Grit," which 
gave him a huge audience, but he was never a one-novel guy. This is a 
grandly absurdist comedy with an edgy bite about an expatriate American 
in Mexico. Oddball misfits galore, with hero Jimmy Burns pondering his 
future with the wanted and unwanted advice of hippies, UFO nuts and a 
90-pound possible love interest.
